The first week of my detox did not work out as well as I had hoped. Mostly this was my own fault. I decided to start a detox the same week that our new store was opening (I work at Arhaus, and we just opened at Summit Mall). The opening was so hectic that I did not plan lunches nor was I prepared for eating out as much as I ended up doing that week.
The second thing that completely derailed my first week was my lack of preparation. I did not go grocery shopping before and had only enough food to prep one lunch for work and a couple real dinners. I had random items but they were well random (ie a can of green beans, some rice and raisins)
After getting through the week, I regrouped and have since been doing pretty good. Last week I ate out twice. Once meeting up with good friends I hadn’t seen in a while and once for lunch. I also did a decent size grocery shop to stock up on items that I could prep lunches for work.
During this same week, I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts, Jean Chatzky’s Her Money. I have been an avid listener for the past couple of years and the episode I listen to could not be more on point. Ep:171 The Master Cleanse For Your Money She interviewed Ashley Feinstein Gerstley, author of The 30-Day Money Cleanse. This was such perfect timing for me. I needed a little kick-start inspiration to help me do my spending detox and if you are looking to start one as well, I highly recommend listening to this episode. I plan on checking out her book so that I can get more tips for succeeding.
3 Lessons I learned this week for my Spending Detox:
- In order to meal prep – you need to go to the grocery store.
- Plan for the weeks coming ahead. Look at whats coming up and try to anticipate what issues you may run into.
- Research. There are lots of guides that can lead you in better directions in planning and decision making.
