About a year ago I started to really get serious about looking at the future of finances, like really serious. I started listening to Jean Chatzky’s podcast: Her Money, and examining all my decisions and why my financial future looked like. It looked gloomy. I was already working on paying off my credit card debt and had somewhat of a budget but no retirement and barely any savings at all. This had to change.

Jean recommended 2 apps on one of her shows and I started using both instantly and thank goodness! The first was Digit, this helps you save and not spend (I will go into this one a little more in another post). The second was an app called Acorn. This one helps you actually invest money and simply.
Now I do not know much about investing and have little idea about what stocks I should buy etc, but I do know that investing is smart and can help you grow savings for retirement, which everyone needs. Because I do not know much and don’t have much money to my name, I was always afraid of the bigger websites that say you have to have “X” to start investing and you have to diversify etc. But this app seemed simple and it was.
Here is how it works. You sign up (click here) and link your main account to your Acorn account. It will look at your purchases and round the up, the difference gets withdrawn from your account and invested. It is so effortless and simple that you don’t even realize you are inventing money. And since the amounts are so small, I don’t even realize that the money is missing.
I highly recommend this app for anyone who is scared about investing or things that they don’t have enough money to start investing. You can add more money to the Acorn account as you like as well, and set up automatic investments, but if you just want to do the minimum you can. Yes, the minimum will not make you rich, but it will give you something and that is a huge start.
If you are still a little skeptical about a app that invests money for you, this app has actually been endorsed by US News, ABCNew, CNBC and Forbes. And as I mentioned before, my financial yogi, Jean Chatzky, recommended this on her show as well.
To sign up, please follow my link: https://acorns.com/invite/BV3FHU
This will give you $5 to invest and I will also get $5 for referring you to the app. Yes there is something in it for me, full disclosure, but I would never have started investing if this app wasn’t so easy to use. If you are scared of investing, try it! Plus here is my favorite part!! Now when someone signs up, they will plant an oak tree with OneTreePlanted, how awesome is that!!
So help the environment, help me support my blog and help yourself invest in your future!
