Closet Clean Out with ThredUP!

Part of my endeavor to clean up the clutter in my life is make my life simpler. I have been listening and reading a few blogs and podcasts that have mentioned the big issue in mosts people’s struggle to simplify; the closet. This space is a little tricky for me being a Textiles and Clothing Major in college, I tend to get emotionally attached to clothes. But when is it okay to be emotionally attached and when do you need to let go?

I wish I had the answer. It will be different for everyone. I will say that since I have taken the plunge and decided to remove certain pieces from my closet that were… well… at least 15 years old, I have felt a little bit of a weight lifted from my shoulders.

fullsizerender.jpgHow was I personally able to let go? To be very honest the motivation has been a financial one. I needed to clean out my closet and I needed to make some extra money.

And this is probably a good place to put my “Honesty Disclaimer”. I will never post something on this blog that I earn a referral for, without letting you know. This is a referral post. I get $10 if you sign up and make a purchase and you also get $10 as well to shop on their site. Click on the ThredUp links if you would like to sign up – if you don’t no worries!

About a year ago I discovered a website called ThredUp. They are an online consignment store that you can send your clothes to and they will give you money for them. The first time I tried it out I was hooked and have been sending a bag to them once every 2 to 3 months( yeah I had a lot of clothes and shoes and purses …).

If you are looking to get rid of clothing and new to make a little extra cash, ThredUp is a great way to go. But, I will warn you of a couple things. You will not make a ton of money unless your closet is full of high end designer items. And you must make sure that you wash and clean everything before you send it or they will not accept it. If they do not accept it you can either have the items sent back to you or donated. I always have it donated. Someone out there can find more value in the item than I will having it sent back to me.

For those of you who are interested in signing up, thank you in advance! For those of you who are not I would love your feedback. Is there some other service I should try? Please let me know as your feedback in important!
